Project profile.

Client: Central Coast Council
Value: $10M
Timeline: 2015
Brief:

The Dial Regional Sports Complex located in Penguin Tasmania is the culmination of almost 25 years of planning by Central Coast Council. This facility has a full specification AFL oval, a second oval to Regional AFL standard and a Pavilion with change rooms, warm up facilities and function room with full bar.

The site included the existing school oval, an extensive gully and a large parcel to accommodate the AFL oval. A series of roads, car parking areas and the ovals had to be designed to maintain the gully without compromising the need for expansive flat areas. 3D civil modelling was used and provided to the contractor allowing the use of a machine control.

The Dial Regional Sports Complex will be a valuable community amenity for the NW coast.

challenges:

Working under a GMP procurement process with demanding constraints and objectives.

the rare innovation:

Facilitating irrigation water supply during construction to accommodate low network capacity.

key benefits:

Interest in providing local contribution to develop challenging sites for community and public projects.
