The Silo Hotel is the vision of developer Errol Stewart.  The design has integrated abandoned grain silos into a new 100 room, restaurant, hotel and function centre.  There have been many engineering challenges to overcome including soft soils, modifications to the existing structure and potential for flooding.  The structural design has utilised steel and timber piles, a 40m long x 12m wide x 1.2m deep raft footing to support a new north tower, reinforced concrete frames, suspended concrete insitu and post tensioned floors and precast concrete façade walls.  Flood mitigation pumps have been installed at basement level to discharge one in a hundred-year storm events.
