Brief:

Rare were involved in designing a pedestrian and cycle bridge for the Hobart CBD to improve connections between parts of the CBD and UTAS facilities.

challenges & successes:

With a complex site geometry and extensive underground services required, the Brooker pedestrian bridge in Hobart presented a challenge, but it’s a project we are proud to have completed with innovation and efficiency.

the rare innovation:

We used a range of techniques and materials, such as pre-stressed concrete beams, steel plate and cantilevering to provide a safe structure to be used for years to come.

key benefits:

Working with the University of Tasmania, Hobart City Council, TasWater, TasNetworks, and the community and users of the bridge helped to ensure the bridge was going to be both functional and visually appealing.
